A Room With A Pew

A Room With A Pew is a unique column offering a fresh perspective on clergy abuse and the healing process. Using memoir, stories and poetry, the column reflects the experiences and opinions of Paul Fericano, a survivor of clergy sexual abuse who attended St. Anthony’s Seminary in Santa Barbara, California, in the sixties.

SafeNet: Twenty Years of Assisting Survivors

2003 - 2023

SafeNet, an all-volunteer advocacy group, was established in 2003, by survivors of clergy sexual abuse. Its focus is on the needs, health and well-being of survivors.

SafeNet is not aligned with any religion or religious group.

SafeNet has worked with a handful of church leaders who have understood the importance of direct communication and demonstrated the will to engage in pastoral outreach, restorative justice and policy reforms that promote transparency and disclosure.

SafeNet has encouraged and assisted hundreds of men and women by helping them to utilize the resources available, including psychological, emotional and legal counseling, as well as other health and wellness support services.

SafeNet supports the entire healing process. It acknowledges

that seeking peace and justice often involves looking for the truth in dark places; that certain risks are part of the journey; and that each person's journey requires respect, understanding and compassion, three elements essential to every stage of recovery.
