Court Documents and Depositions: Franciscans

Posted May 23, 2012

FRANCISCAN DOCUMENTS AND DEPOSITIONS POSTED HERE

In 2011 the California Supreme Court declined to hear the Franciscans' Petition to Review, regarding the release of confidential files and the depublication of the appellate court's ruling in favor of plaintiffs.

May 23, 2012, marks the public release of all relative documents under the terms of the 2006 settlement. SafeNet is posting these documents here and will post other documents as they become available.

All Franciscan documents posted here are links to BishopAccountability.org.
SafeNet acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of this organization
to post these files online and make them readily available to the public.

PLEASE READ BEFORE REVIEWING DOCUMENTS AND DEPOSITIONS

The documents and depositions presented here have been released by court order and are part of the settlements finalized in 2006 with survivors of clergy abuse within the Franciscan Province of St. Barbara (headquartered in Oakland, California). Materials of and about Franciscan clergy abuse offenders have been organized below accordingly.

NOTE: The possibility of retraumatization is always high when such documents are made public. We urge all clergy abuse survivors to exercise care when reviewing this and other sensitive material. We suggest a guided review for those in therapy. If you are experiencing anxiety about these disclosures, please seek assistance and support from those you trust.

SafeNet presents these documents without comment. Our position is to promote and support complete disclosure and greater transparency within the Franciscan order and the Catholic church. Our work remains dedicated to and focused on the healing process and all that it entails.

For those who would like to speak with the Pastoral Outreach Coordinator for the Franciscan province, please contact Angelica Jochim, MFT, a lay, licensed psychotherapist. Her Office of Pastoral Outreach supports and advocates for Franciscan survivors of clergy abuse.

For those who would like to speak with survivors of clergy abuse from St. Anthony's Seminary involved in this and other SafeNet work, please contact Paul Fericano and/or John McCord.
